The Manatee River Pram Fleet has a traveling race team that competes on a local, regional, national and international level from August to June. Race team members have completed a beginner and intermediate class in a Summer Camp Sailing Program. Our sailors compete in the International Optimist and International Laser classes.
The team practices each week to advance their sailing skills and knowledge of the rules of sailing racing.
Winning is not the main goal of our race team. Our most important goals are to do our best, have fun and always show great sportsmanship. Our kids are expected to win with class, and to lose with class. We are proud of our sailors and what they have accomplished over the years. To be a part of our racing program; you are expected to be humble, be a good sport, be a great team player, maintain a positive attitude, and keep good grades in school.
The team attends regattas on average once per month during the racing season. Most of the regattas that we attend are within 1-2 hours drive of Bradenton. Some of the regattas we attend regularly include:
In order to try out for the race team your child must have attended beginner and intermediate summer camp sessions.
There are two levels in our team.
Green fleet is for sailors who have less than 2 years of racing experience. It is meant to be a non competitive format that sailors can use to learn the rules and fundamentals of racing.
Red White and Blue fleet is for more experienced sailors who need a higher level of competition. The sailors are broken up by age into three divisions White(10 and under), Blue(11-12), and Red(13+)
